What Mauricio Pochettino told Levi Colwill in private phone call before Euro U21 final

Reports have claimed that Mauricio Pochettino was in contact with Levi Colwill just days before England U21’s Euro final against Spain.

According to The Athletic, the new manager took the opportunity to stress how excited he was to meet him and begin working with him during pre-season this summer.

Colwill has been left with a massive decision to make regarding his future this summer, with Brighton and Liverpool reportedly interested in signing him.

The Seagulls are reportedly keen on smashing their transfer record in order to bring in the player this summer after having him on loan last season.

They are no doubt hoping that their interest in the defender can give them leverage in a deal that the Blues are trying to strike for Moises Caicedo in midfield.

However, Chelsea have consistently told any sides that he is simply not for sale, and is a crucial part of their future.

Pochettino now has the job of looking to convince him that he has a place in the first team immediately, with him more than ready to be a starter for a top Premier League side.

It has been claimed that there is a real chance he becomes a starter for England at next summer’s European Championships, although it will likely only come if he is subject to more starting football this season.

The Blues have already begun to make moves that prove they are ready to give him the opportunity. They have already sold Kalidou Koulibaly to Saudi Arabia for a decent fee.
