Rio Ferdinand is predicting Mauricio Pochettino will take the reigns as the next Chelsea manager.
Chelsea, who sacked Thomas Tuchel back in September, axed their second manager of the season on Sunday. This time Graham Potter was let go seven months into a five-year deal.
Bruno Saltor is the Blues interim boss and his side take on Liverpool tonight in the Premier League. All eyes are on the ownership group to see who the long-term replacement for Potter is, though.
Mauricio Pochettino is a very interesting name to throw into the mix.
The 51-year-old has a strong association with Spurs after managing them for five years, but he’s out of work since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea will interview out-of-work Pochettino as one of their managerial candidates.
Ferdinand, who was speaking on the YouTube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE, made an attempt at predicting some managerial appointments.
He predicts Pochettino could return to London, this time with Chelsea. Meanwhile, Spurs could get Julian Nagelsmann.
“I’m going Pochettino to Chelsea because [Daniel] Levy doesn’t look interested at the moment; he would have taken him already if he was going to go to Spurs… I think Nagelsman might go Spurs.”
It’s going to be interesting to see if Chelsea’s board do make a quick appointment and get somebody in the hotseat in time for the Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid.
The Blues are still in with a fighting chance of European glory this season, albeit they’re big underdogs right now.
If someone can get an immediate new manager bounce, perhaps Chelsea could still salvage what has been a really tough season to watch for supporters.
Pochettino has Premier League know-how and a decent CV. However, would he be the right fit at Stamford Bridge?
