Rio Ferdinand says Chelsea have a really ‘robust’ player that could leave Stamford Bridge

Reece James got an England call-up for the World Cup, Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill might have felt aggrieved but for Trevoh Chalobah, he would not have even considered being a part of it.

James was the only England player included in the original 26-man squad before the tournament, which is understandable given Chelsea had a torrid season in which the Blues finished 10th in the Premier League.

Trevoh Chalobah has been getting away it for too long 😑

This is alarming!

Palmer had to play with an injury and for Colwill, he had to watch from the sidelines right until the final few games due to a knee injury. Chalobah endured a tricky campaign too, struggling for form at the back.

He divides opinion among Chelsea fans. Some feel he can be the long-term partner next to Colwill, while some do not think he is good enough for Chelsea. But he is now part of England’s World Cup squad.

Ferdinand explains why Thomas Tuchel has picked Chalobah

When Tino Livramento’s injury hit the headlines, it came as a bit of a surprise that Chalobah was chosen. Harry Maguire showed a touch of class when he was asked if he should have got the call-up, instead.

Jamie Carragher, on the other hand, was stunned Chalobah was chosen over Trent Alexander-Arnold. It is claimed Chalobah was picked largely due to his relationship with Tuchel, and he was in America anyway.

On his podcast, Ferdinand said: “Yeah. it’s weird, I was actually talking to Trevoh this last week. He was coming over to train. I was going to meet up with him. But, congratulations to him first and foremost.

“But I see why he’s taken him. He can play multiple positions, he can play full back or centre half and he’s quick. Tuchel likes pace I think. He wants robust, quick, athletic players, Trevoh Chalobah fits that.”

Trevoh Chalobah’s Chelsea future is in doubt this summer

Chelsea are renowned for their long-term contracts but two senior players are about to enter the final two years of their deals. They are Tosin Adarabioyo, who could leave, and England defender Chalobah.

One of many problems on the pitch at the moment 🤦‍♂️

After a tricky season especially at centre-back, Chalobah is one of many central defenders that could leave Stamford Bridge this summer. Indeed, it was claimed in February that Chelsea would sell Chalobah.

It is unclear what Alonso wants to do with Chalobah, as it is with many other Chelsea players. Time will tell, and we will know more when Alonso takes office on July 1, but Chalobah’s future is very unclear.
