Cole Palmer has now gone three consecutive games in the Premier League without a goal or assist, but he continues to do things on a football pitch that excite supporters.
At the age of 22, Cole Palmer is the standout individual and talisman of the Chelsea squad.
In 12 Premier League appearances this season, the left-footed attacker has seven goals and five assists. There’s no doubt that he suits the No.10 position he’s been starring in for Enzo Maresca’s side.
Palmer was denied his eight goal of the season in Saturday’s 2-1 away win at Leicester City when his goal-bound shot was accidentally blocked on the line by teammate Noni Madueke. Maresca reacted in disbelief to Palmer’s goal miss versus Leicester.

Rio Ferdinand loves watching Cole Palmer
Rio Ferdinand has raved about Chelsea’s Palmer and just how valuable he is to his side. Also, he said that the 22-year-old playmaker amazes him every time he watches him with a piece of skill.
Ferdinand said via his YouTube channel: “Cole Palmer, every game I watch this guy, he does something that makes you go, ‘Oh, that weren’t normal’. He played a pass the other day, the weight of it, wraps it in… He’s the one that makes them tick. He opens games up for them all the time.”
Based off this season, Shay Given rates Palmer as the Premier League’s best player. The Chelsea ace definitely belongs in that conversation because of his eye-catching performances.
Cole Palmer impacts Chelsea even when he’s not scoring or assisting
By Palmer’s exceptionally high standards at Chelsea, he’s on a mini drought as an attacking threat. However, he’s still the heartbeat of the Blues side with so much influence on the pitch.
| Fixture | Minutes played | Goals | Assists | Match rating |
| Leicester City 1-2 Chelsea | 90 | 0 | 0 | 7.6 |
| Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal | 90 | 0 | 0 | 6.4 |
| Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea | 90 | 0 | 0 | 7.7 |
It’s great to see the likes of Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez shining in the Blues XI recently, but there’s no doubt that Palmer is still the go-to individual.
John Obi Mikel wants more from Palmer in Chelsea’s big games, which is a criticism that many have aimed towards him. The reality is he’s too talented for it to become a long-term issue.
