Chelsea’s marathon 2024/25 season can now be branded as even more successful after they were crowned champions of the Club World Cup.
A hungry and determined side coached brilliantly by Enzo Maresca got the better of Champions League winners, PSG, in emphatic fashion, winning 3-0 in the final.
Confidence was installed into the side from the back by a commanding performance from Robert Sanchez, who ended the day with the Golden Glove award to recognise his displays in the competition.
French media were full of praise for Sanchez after his clean sheet against the best attack in Europe, however it was a Chelsea star who stole all the headlines from the big game.

Robert Sanchez hails Cole Palmer ‘the best in the world’ after Club World Cup final
Cole Palmer was superb for the Blues and capped off a brilliant tournament with two goals and an assist in the first half of the final.
Luis Enrique praised Palmer after the final, after his temper flared at full-time with an altercation involving Joao Pedro.
The Chelsea squad will be more than aware of the quality the England international has, however Sanchez has claimed that he is actually the best player in the world, and that is something that will be accepted by everyone in just a couple of years time.
He told FIFA: “Cole Palmer is the best in the world. If he’s not the best now, he’s going to be in the next two to three years. “He’s a top player. He shows it in all the matches. What he does is magic. When he gets chances, he takes them. Today he scored two goals, almost a hat-trick. Impressive.”

Palmer’s incredible stats vs PSG
The pre-match hype for the game surrounded Palmer and Ousmane Dembele, and it was clear to see which of the two turned up and performed at their best on the big occasion.

Criticism had come Palmer’s way for his lack of goals in the latter stages of the season. Until the Club World Cup got underway, he hadn’t scored from open play since January.
All of that now seems to be behind him, and he will now have a precious few weeks to recover before the 2025/26 Premier League season gets underway against Crystal Palace.
