Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea almost went a very different route late in the transfer window
He took to YouTube to state that the Blues considered a deal for Nico Williams before they eventually completed the transfer of Cole Palmer from Manchester City.
Palmer has been an absolute revelation this season so far for the Blues following his deadline day move, and proved exactly how far he has come when he faced his former side last weekend.

Alongside Raheem Sterling, he ran the show against City, who were more than happy to cash in on him. They will perhaps be beginning to regret that.
He has recently been rewarded with a call-up to the England senior side, with a potential debut in the works in the coming days.
However, things nearly turned out very differently. Romano has claimed they considered going down another avenue late in the window.
Chelsea nearly signed Williams over Palmer
He said: “Chelsea had Nico Williams in their list in the summer. Their priority target was Cole Palmer, but when Cole Palmer was not available and they didn’t get the green light from Manchester City, Nico Williams was one of the names they secretly considered at the club.
“Eventually, nothing happened and they wanted to go for Cole Palmer, and are very happy with Cole Palmer.”
Williams has been a target to a number of big clubs, with Romano going on to claim that the big two in Spain have sent scouts to watch him.
However, Chelsea will likely not be looking back in anger after the immense start to life Palmer has made.
Barring no injury over the international break, he will be one of the first names on the teamsheet when club football returns in 10 days’ time.
