Alan Shearer saved several kind words for Marcos Alonso after his impressive performance against Southampton last Saturday.
Shearer included Alonso and three other Chelsea players in his Premier League Team of the Week, thanks to their 6-0 demolition of the Saints on the weekend.
Thomas Tuchel’s team hit Ralph Hasenhuttl half a dozen times at St Mary’s, a decent way to end two successive home defeats.
Mason Mount and Timo Werner both bagged a brace, whilst Kai Havertz continued his fine scoring form.
But the mauling began from the boot of a defender.
Alonso was one fire vs Southampton
Alonso struck a delightful goal after just eight minutes, following a tidy tee-up from Mount.

The Spain international marauded down the left channel all afternoon, showcasing the skills that made him such a threat during the start of the season.
He might not be every fan’s favourite, but the 31-year-old is extremely valuable when playing at his best.
Few know the left-wing back role better, something that will not be easy to replace once he eventually leaves Chelsea.
His contribution towards crushing Southampton gave a timely reminder of what Tuchel or another manager needs to replace further down the line.
“He set the tone for the day with his early opener and was superb throughout,” said Shearer on Alonso’s exhibition.
We want more from Marcos
Unfortunately for the full-back, displays like the one witnessed recently have been rare of late.
Before opening the flood gates on the South coast, he had only scored twice for Chelsea all campaign.
This is despite being picked predominantly by Tuchel due to Ben Chilwell’s long-term absence.

Yet, not many will recall Alonso’s prior lack of goals or assists if he can continue to add for the rest of the term.
Especially as Chelsea have several huge matches coming up that the £24m (Sky Sports) signing from Fiorentina is set to feature in.
None bigger than tonight’s Champions League contest away to Real Madrid.
