Since being taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, Chelsea have spent a lot of money in the transfer market.
For example, Chelsea bought Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for £107m in 2023 before bringing in Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion for £115m last summer.
They have also lost a lot of money, with it recently being announced that the Blues made a pre-tax loss of £90.1m for the 12-month period ending on 30 June 2023.
With the Premier League really coming down hard on clubs now for their spending, it looks like Chelsea could soon find themselves in a bit of bother.
That is at least what talkSPORT regular and former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan thinks.
Simon Jordan expects FFP charge for Chelsea
Because of their numbers, Jordan thinks Chelsea are certain to be charged by the Premier League for breaching profit and sustainability rules.
Discussing their situation on talkSPORT, Jordan said: “It’s absolutely inconceivable that by December of next year, Chelsea won’t be facing a charge from the Premier League for breaching financial fair play unless there’s a complete sea change in the rules and a complete rowing back from the perspective.

“If you’re looking at Chelsea’s numbers, unless they’re going to go and sell somewhere in the region of £200m of players that have a low-cost base on them, so the players that you would think that they’re least likely to sell, then Chelsea are going to be in a situation that Nottingham Forest and Everton have been in this time next year.”
Why have Nottingham Forest been punished by the Premier League?
Forest are the latest club to be punished for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
As per BBC Sport, Forest were only allowed to make a £61m loss, which is lower than the standard £105m other Premier League clubs are permitted to lose over three seasons, because they spent two years of the assessment period in the Championship.
As a result of making more than a £61m loss, they have been docked four points, putting Nuno Espirito Santo’s men in the relegation zone.
Chelsea could suffer a similar fate based on their recent numbers, but they can improve their situation by selling players before the end of June.
In terms of who the Blues could sell, Conor Gallagher is one name that could be made available for transfer. The midfielder is out of contract next summer and came through the club’s academy, meaning that he can be sold for pure profit. If you are looking at the financial side of things, then, Gallagher is obviously a logical candidate to sell.
