Spanish news outlet MARCA described Joao Felix as ‘full of magic’ before turning from ‘hero to villain’ on his Chelsea debut last night.

The 23-year-old was sent off in the second half with the scores level, as the Blues eventually fell to a 2-1 defeat to Fulham.

The Portugal international had been impressing on his first match for the club, with his willingness to drive at defenders something the Blues had been sorely missing.

However, things went wrong rapidly in the second half, when his eagerness to impress saw him sent off for a reckless tackle.

MARCA have claimed that despite showing Chelsea fans what he can do, his situation just before the hour mark saw his debut end in a nightmare.

Spanish media react to Felix

They said: “Chelsea is more of the same but with a new member full of magic in its ranks. This time, the blues began commanding the game with a stellar Joao who left details of crack to his new fans.

“But Joao Félix’s debut went from being a dream to a nightmare. With Koulibaly’s goal, Chelsea signed the tie on the scoreboard in the 47th minute. Mount by the way, taking his class for a walk in the free kick prior to the goal. Before all of Joao’s odyssey, Zakaria was joining the Chelsea infirmary. And in minute 58, the play of contention. A chilling entrance from Joao Félix about Tete turned Joao from hero to villain.”

He will now be absent for the next three fixtures, sending Graham Potter back to the injury-hit drawing board as he looks to get Chelsea back to winning ways.

The former Brighton man will not have long to come to this conclusion, with another London derby on the horizon against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
