Chelsea’s Mason Mount delivered a European masterclass last night against Real Madrid, but his team fell just short in the Champions League quarter-finals.
It took a headed goal in extra time from Madrid forward Karim Benzema to decide the memorable contest with a 5-4 aggregate scoreline.
Mount was the catalyst in the Chelsea display yesterday, scoring one and assisting another to get the Blues back into the tie at the Bernabeu.
Thomas Tuchel’s side should be immensely proud of how they performed this week, so need to take that into the final couple of months of this season.
23-year-old Chelsea star Mount uploaded a message on Instagram after his side’s Champions League exit.
West Ham and England midfielder Declan Rice posted a three-word response to his close mate.
“Special performance bro,” he said.
In addition, pundit Ian Wright sent a heartfelt message to Mount.
“Did yourself and the club proud Mase. Small margins. You’ll be back here,” Wright said.

Chelsea poster boy keeps improving
For Mount, he’s the golden boy of this Chelsea squad that is constantly put under real scrutiny by the media and the fanbase.
The attacking midfielder has really grown into a senior figure around Stamford Bridge, something that’s great to see from an academy graduate.
He’s nowhere near the finished article yet, but the playmaker was in dazzling form last night in Madrid.
The Englishman now has 11 goals and 14 assists across all competitions this season, which are the kind of figures he’ll be striving for every season.
Let’s hope he’s feeling fit and fresh ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium.
