‘Spectacular’ Chelsea target scores brace in 6-0 win before handing Blues transfer blow

Chelsea are unlikely to have much success if they revisit a deal for one of their summer targets.

In the previous transfer window, Chelsea signed Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, but they were also linked with the likes of Fermin Lopez and Rodrygo.

It was claimed that Lopez thought about joining Chelsea, but in the end, the attacking midfielder decided to stay at Barcelona.

Hansi Flick will be glad that he did, especially after his latest performance for the La Liga champions.

Fermin Lopez scored twice in Barcelona’s 6-0 win against Valencia

Lopez bagged a brace in Barcelona’s emphatic 6-0 victory over Valencia, leaving Flick’s men just two points behind Real Madrid in the table.

The 22-year-old also brought a lot of creativity to the pitch on the day. According to Sofascore, Lopez completed two key passes and created two big chances.

Enzo Maresca could have really done with the Spaniard on Saturday after Chelsea’s failure to break Brentford down in the first half of their 2-2 draw.

While Lopez did not want a transfer to Chelsea on deadline day, the Blues have not given up on him. The reliable Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Lopez is still on Chelsea’s list.

However, the Spain international could be set to disappoint the Club World Cup winners once again.

Fermin Lopez planning on staying at Barcelona for ‘many years’

As of now, it looks like Lopez has no intention of leaving Barcelona in a blow to Chelsea.

Speaking on Movistar at the end of Barcelona’s game against Valencia, Lopez said: “My intention has always been to be here for many years. I never doubted it. There was always speculation, I have always wanted to be here, and I will fight to be here for many years.”

In the past, former Barcelona manager Xavi has praised Lopez’s mentality, describing it as “spectacular” (via Barca Blaugranes).

Again, it is a shame that Chelsea did not sign Lopez or Xavi Simons, as they really could have made the difference for Maresca’s side over the weekend.

Facundo Buonanotte started in the No.10 position instead of Cole Palmer, who is just returning from injury, but was a very lacklustre replacement.

Meanwhile, Simons shone for Tottenham Hotspur on his debut for Chelsea’s London rivals.
