‘Start him’: Chelsea fans urge Mauricio Pochettino to play 21-year-old vs Brentford

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has some tough decisions to make this weekend when it comes to selecting the team to face Brentford.

In particular, we’re intrigued to see what the Blues attack looks like this afternoon.

The Blues host Brentford Saturday lunchtime in a Premier League fixture, with both team vying for three Premier League points.

Noni Madueke, who’s not had much action so far this season, does appear to have a fair amount of support from within the club’s fanbase.

So, will the 21-year-old winger come into Mauricio Pochettino’s thoughts today?

Noni Madueke frustration

We suspect that Madueke’s quite agitated with his lack of club minutes recently.

The English right-winger has made just five appearances across all competitions so far this season. In fact, his only start came in the Carabao Cup win against AFC Wimbledon in August, which is a game that he scored in.

It’s obvious that he’s fallen down the pecking order for the attacking positions under Pochettino, so he’ll just be desperate to get some more play time to prove what he can do. Of course, it’s often difficult for players to make a sizeable impact with late cameos in games.

We know he’s a very skilful wide player that is great 1v1 against defenders. He’s got a superb left foot, too.

Boudewijn Zenden recently suggested via Soccer News that Chelsea may look to send Madueke out on loan to help his development. He’s described the youngster as someone with “enormous potential”, but he simply needs more minutes right now.

Vocal Chelsea fans

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media are shouting loudly for Madueke to get his opportunity against Brentford.

Our prediction is that Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk will retain their starting positions on the wing this weekend, which is fair enough given the form of both Blues stars.

However, here are some Chelsea fans on X desperate for Madueke to start at home to Brentford:
