Chelsea have been huge winners when it comes to the loan market over the years, but unfortunately not every transfer does work out well.
There’s a number of players in the current Chelsea squad that have benefited from loan spells in the early stages of their career. For example, Blues centre-half Levi Colwill developed in the Championship and Premier League before his first-team breakthrough at Stamford Bridge.
Interestingly, Jadon Cundy suggested Chelsea need to loan out Mykhailo Mudryk at the start of October. However, the winger has started to find a bit of form recently to show what he can offer the squad, which has included some eye-catching performances in the Conference League group stages.

Steve Nicol rips into Raheem Sterling transfer
ESPN pundit Steve Nicol thinks the Raheem Sterling move in the summer is the worst transfer of this Premier League season.
Sterling, 29, left Chelsea in the summer to join rivals Arsenal on a season-long loan. So far, the experienced English winger has struggled to make a significant impact on the pitch.
Nicol told ESPN: “Let’s be honest, what has he done? He’s done zero. At the very least, come on and give Martinelli and Saka on the other side a break… He’s done nothing, absolutely zero.”
Chris Sutton claims Chelsea were right to let Sterling go based off what he’s done so far this season across London.
Raheem Sterling having quiet time at Arsenal
Sterling arrived at Arsenal in the summer on loan with so much experience at the elite level, but he’s yet to replicate any kind of good form for them.
Here is a look at the attacker’s record for the Gunners this campaign:
| Competition | Appearances (Starts) | Goals | Assists |
| Premier League | 4 (2) | 0 | 0 |
| Champions League | 2 (0) | 0 | 0 |
| Carabao Cup | 2 (2) | 1 | 1 |
Sterling has had chances to force his way into Mikel Arteta’s side, especially because of injuries at the Emirates Stadium in the opening few months of the season. However, the wide man is just missing that creative spark that was once a big part of his game.
Behdad Eghbali was behind Sterling’s Chelsea exit when he left on loan in the summer, which currently looks like a deal that makes sense. His absence has opened the door for Blues wingers such as Mudryk, Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto to thrive at Stamford Bridge.
