Steve Sidwell and Wayne Bridge agree Chelsea supporters are fuming with one player, ‘fans are on his case’

Former Chelsea players Steve Sidwell and Wayne Bridge have noticed that one current Blues star is under some considerable heat right now from the club’s fanbase.

It’s a nervous time of the season at Stamford Bridge because Chelsea’s campaign hangs in the balance.

Blues manager Enzo Maresca is desperately trying to get his side to finish in the Premier League’s top five positions, which will be enough for Champions League qualification for next year. However, Jamie Carragher’s prediction on Chelsea is that they’ll finish outside the top five.

Steve Sidwell and Wayne Bridge claim Chelsea fans are on Jadon Sancho’s back

Steve Sidwell claims that Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho, 25, is under some real heat recently from supporters to improve his game. He does agree that the Englishman can raise his levels, though.

When discussing Sancho on The Dressing Room Podcast, Sidwell said: “I need to see more of him. He’s not doing enough for me. I just thought, ‘What a great platform to come in and play’…

“I watched him the other night against Spurs, and he’s trying to make things happen, but it’s just not coming off. Is he trying too much? The crowd were getting on his back a little bit as well. There’s 100 per cent a player there, but it needs to come out somewhere. I don’t know whether it’ll be at Chelsea or not.”

Afterwards, Wayne Bridge agreed in the podcast that he’s noticed Sancho become a target for the Chelsea boo boys.

He said: “It’s hard because you’re looking for something a bit individual. We’ve talked about Chelsea; they haven’t been on fire as a team. It’s difficult as well. If you’re that type of player, he’s got to make something happen, I think. If you look at some of the wingers out there at the moment just making things happen. The fans are on his case. Is that affecting him a bit mentally?”

If there’s added pressure on Sancho coming from Chelsea supporters right now, it’s because they know he’s a talented player who can perform better. At this stage, he should be a little disappointed with his attacking output so far this season.

Chelsea can opt out of buying Sancho if they pay a £5m penalty fee despite the fact that he joined from Manchester United last summer on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy for around £25m.

During the 1-0 win over Tottenham earlier in April, Chelsea fans voiced their anger towards Sancho, largely because they felt he could shoot more.

Jadon Sancho isn’t shooting enough

During a recent interview, Maresca admitted Sancho can do more in front of goal as an attacking option. If he shoots more, he’ll only increase his chances of becoming a bigger goal threat.

As you can see above, Sancho hasn’t been shooting regularly enough during his 25 Premier League appearances this season.

He’s getting enough opportunities in the starting XI to play himself back into form, but he’s really testing the patience of supporters right now. If he can’t improve his end product, Blues youngster Tyrique George is patiently waiting on the bench for more chances to feature.
