Stuart Pearce has urged Bruno Guimaraes to stay at Newcastle United despite interest from top clubs such as Chelsea.

There were transfer rumours circulating this week about the 25-year-old’s future on Tyneside.

According to The Telegraph on Thursday, Chelsea could be interested in signing Guimaraes from Newcastle this summer. Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested buyers in him.

The report said yesterday that the Brazil international may be close to signing a new deal with the Magpies, but it doesn’t guarantee his long-term future.

TalkSPORT pundit Pearce reacted to yesterday’s rumours by suggests Guimaraes should stick with Newcastle.

Signed for £40million from Lyon, the South American central midfielder is attracting huge interest because of some fantastic performances for the Toon.

When asked about reported interest in Guimaraes, Pearce told talkSPORT (11:50am, 10 March): “I would be very excited to be a Newcastle player now, especially if you’re Bruno. He’s at a club where the fanbase is brilliant; they absolutely love him to bits. He’s enjoying his football. He’s playing really good football. I wouldn’t see a necessity to even want to leave that football club if I were him, because I would be excited by the challenge that is a growing process at Newcastle.”

The midfield pivot of Enzo Fernandez and Mateo Kovacic is starting to blossom at Chelsea. N’Golo Kante will soon be thrown into the mix, too.

We always want the Blues to sign the best individuals out there, and Guimaraes has shown in a little over a year in the Premier League how good he is.

However, the Newcastle man isn’t what Graham Potter’s squad needs right now when you look at the balance of it.
