‘Suit Chelsea’: Sky Sports pundit urges Blues to sign 16-goal striker

Clinton Morrison believes Chelsea desperately need a reliable goalscorer and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen would be the ideal player for them to sign.

Chelsea, who have scored just 22 goals in 21 games in the Premier League this season, are by far the lowest-scoring side in the top half of the table.

This is hardly a surprise considering Kai Havertz, who has five goals in the league, leads the goalscoring chart at Chelsea.

The arrival of exciting attacking talents such as Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk may help increase their output, but many, including Morrison, believe Chelsea still lack a proper number nine.

“They spent all that money and they don’t have a natural number nine that can put the ball in the net,” the former Crystal Palace forward told Sky Sports (via HITC) when speaking about Chelsea’s attacking issues.

“Victor Osimhen, the boy at Napoli, I do like. I think there are a lot of big clubs watching him. I think he could suit Chelsea.”

Osimhen, who has racked up 16 goals and three assists from 17 appearances in Serie A, is certainly one of the hottest goalscoring talents in Europe at the moment.

Any deal involving the 24-year-old, however, is expected to cost over £100million.

Some Chelsea fans might also have reservations about whether replicating Serie A goalscoring form in the Premier League is really feasible.

Bear in mind that Chelsea spent £97.5m on Romelu Lukaku in 2019, who scored 24 goals for Inter Milan in the previous season, and it did not turn out as well as expected.

In addition to that, reports suggest that Chelsea have already had an agreement in place to sign Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig this summer.

While Nkunku recently said he prefers to play behind a striker, he is certainly more than capable of leading the line himself.
