The Premier League is blessed with some very talented midfielders, including Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo.
The Blues broke the bank to sign Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023, paying their Premier League rivals £115m for his signature.
He arrived on a deal until 2031, but it has been claimed that Chelsea already want to extend Caicedo’s contract.
Teammate Enzo Fernandez, Arsenal’s Declan Rice and Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch are some of the other top midfielders in the English top flight.

Jermaine Pennant claims Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch is outshining Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo
Out of all of the above names, former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has claimed that Gravenberch is the standout midfielder who is currently outshining everyone.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “If you look at the players in the league in that position — Declan Rice — £105m, Enzo Fernandez. Jude Bellingham, I know, is a number 10 but he’s [worth] £100m or so and Caicedo, obviously ironic we wanted Caicedo — £115m.”
The 42-year-old then added: “So getting him [Gravenberch] at €40m and for him to at the moment be outshining all of those players under [Arne] Slot’s regime…”
After impressing last season, Caicedo has started off this campaign strongly. He almost scored the winner in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Brentford earlier this month.
However, the Ecuadorian recently came in for a little bit of criticism. Another talkSPORT pundit, Tony Cascarino, spoke about Caicedo after Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, feeling that he played a role in Robert Sanchez’s sending off.
Had Enzo Maresca‘s first-choice goalkeeper not been so indecisive, though, he would have avoided the red card.

How Ryan Gravenberch and Moises Caicedo compare this season so far
Gravenberch continues to be influential for Liverpool, but Caicedo is still the better ball-winner and passes more accurately than his rival.
| Player | League games | Goals | Assists | Tackles per game | Interceptions per game | Average passes per game | Pass success rate |
| Ryan Gravenberch | 4 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 0.8 | 63.5 | 87.8% |
| Moises Caicedo | 5 | 2 | 0 | 4.2 | 3 | 65.6 | 91.5% |
Again, Chelsea paid £115m for Caicedo, while Liverpool only had to offer around £34m to land Gravenberch. It means Caicedo cost roughly £80m more than Gravenberch.
The expectation, then, is for the Ecuadorian to outperform the Dutchman in the above areas. And with Caicedo doing that, Chelsea fans will not agree with Pennant’s assessment.
Those outside of Chelsea do not appear to rate Caicedo as highly as those who follow the club. It will probably take the Ecuador international inspiring Maresca’s team to a big trophy for that to change.
