Jermaine Pennant has delivered his verdict on whether or not he thinks Chelsea can win the Premier League title this season.
Chelsea have been nowhere near the Premier League title picture in recent years, but there’s a feeling of optimism growing in the fanbase after a positive start to the campaign.
Enzo Maresca has started well as the Blues head coach this term, collecting 10 points from five league matches so far. However, they’ve been miles behind the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool in previous seasons.
We’d love to see the Blues focus on getting back into the Champions League spots. ESPN reports that Maresca has been tasked with a top-four finish at Chelsea.

Are Chelsea title challengers?
TalkSPORT pundit Jermaine Pennant has instantly dismissed the suggestion that Chelsea could be contenders for the league title this campaign.
When asked if Chelsea should be viewed as challengers for the Premier League title, Pennant told talkSPORT: “No, just straight no… They are a lot better. The new manager has got them playing better and they look like a better team. But this is not new. They’ve not played anyone great.”
A huge distance to close
Unfortunately, we agree that Chelsea aren’t realistic title challengers this term. Let’s hope this this young and talented squad of players is moving in that direction quickly, though.
If you look at where the Blues have finished in the league recently, you can see they’ve been miles off the top.
| Season | Premier League finish |
| 2023/24 | 6th |
| 2022/23 | 12th |
| 2021/22 | 3rd |
| 2020/21 | 4th |
| 2019/20 | 4th |
| 2018/19 | 3rd |

Chelsea need to get back in the top four before dreaming of battling the likes of Man City and Arsenal for the league prize. Hopefully, Maresca is building the foundations with this youthful group to win silverware in the coming seasons.
