Darren Bent has named Chelsea’s best starting line-up when everyone’s fit, but there’s no room for either Mason Mount or Raheem Sterling in his XI.
There’s currently such a deep squad at Stamford Bridge that leaves Graham Potter with a real headache.
He’s had major issues with injuries this season to constantly disrupt his starting team, but he’s got a ridiculous amount of first-team stars at his disposal once everybody is fit and available.
Hopefully, Chelsea can be busy in the summer offloading several individuals after welcoming many new faces to west London in the past two transfer windows.
Best Chelsea XI
TalkSPORT pundit Bent has taken on the difficult task of selecting Chelsea’s best side.
Interestingly, there’s not a space for England internationals Mason Mount or Raheem Sterling, who have both been regulars under Potter so far. There’s a surprise inclusion for on-loan midfielder Denis Zakaria, though.
On paper, it’s a pretty formidable team assembled by Bent:
“The keeper is a tough one, I’ve gone with Kepa because of his feet and he can play out from the back,” he told talkSPORT.
“I’ve gone four at the back. Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, and Benoit Badiashile.
“I’ve gone 4-3-3. [N’Golo] Kante, Enzo Fernandez, and [Denis] Zakaria.
“My three up top: Joao Felix down the middle, Mudryk on the left, and Noni Madueke on the right.”
Mount, who’s won back-to-back player of the year awards at Chelsea, will definitely hope to be central to Potter’s plans moving forward. However, there should be a slight concern about the attacking midfielder’s form.
Elsewhere, left-winger Sterling is a serial winner and one of the high-profile names in the Blues group. Potter has confirmed he’s an injury doubt for today’s Premier League match away to West Ham, though.
It really highlights the options in the squad when you consider some of the other names Bent omitted from his XI.
The likes of Edouard Mendy, Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly, Mateo Kovacic, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz weren’t picked.
Potter has the almost impossible task of trying to keep the entire dressing room happy from now until the end of the season.
