Chelsea’s positive start to the season now means that pundits and supporters are discussing them as contenders for the Premier League’s top four positions.

Chelsea finished sixth last year in the Premier League, which was a second consecutive season outside the top four. Hopefully, Enzo Maresca can succeed as the new Blues manager to get them back in the Champions League spots.

The Blues currently sit fourth in the division table over the international break following a decent start to the 2024/25 season.

ESPN previously claimed that Maresca’s target with Chelsea is to finish in the top four. When you reflect that it’s his first taste of Premier League football as a senior a head coach, it’s been a promising opening few months.

Darren Ambrose prediction on Chelsea

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Ambrose has been discussing Chelsea after their promising start to the campaign. Interestingly, he now believes that they’ve got a real chance of getting back in the top four.

Ambrose told talkSPORT: “In terms of fourth position, I mean, Chelsea are looking really good, which is really surprising. We all know that Chelsea have got a fantastic squad, but it has been a squad of fantastic individuals. Now they seem to be jelling as a team, and I think with Cole Palmer arguably the best player in the Premier League at this current moment, I think they have got a real, real chance.”

If Chelsea are serious about staying put in the top four, they’ll need to raise their game in this next set of fixtures. We’re surely going to know a lot more about them after the four league matches that follow the international break.

The Blues play Liverpool (away), Newcastle United (home), Manchester United (away) and Arsenal (home) in a fascinating league run.

Chelsea players should be fresher than rivals

The depth and talent of the Chelsea squad this season is arguably the biggest tool at Maresca’s disposal.

So far, the Blues boss has rotated heavily between the league and cup competitions. We’ve certainly got no issue with him fielding completely different starting line-ups because there’s a lot of quality players waiting in reserve.

There will come a time later in cups when Maresca will need to rotate less, but right now he can manage his group of players a lot easier than rivals that are participating in the Champions League or the Europa League.
