Chelsea have numerous talented youngsters developing out on loan right now, and one of them just scored his first ever goal in senior football.

There’s simply not room for everyone in the Chelsea squad this season because of the number of players on the club’s books, so many of them are getting minutes away from Stamford Bridge.

Hopefully, Blues manager Enzo Maresca will be able to integrate a few of the loanees into his plans moving forward. Andrey Santos is excelling at Strasbourg during his season-long loan with them in France, which is why he’s one Chelsea-owned player surely destined to have a big future in West London.

Chelsea youngster Jimmy-Jay Morgan scores first senior goal

Jimmy-Jay Morgan, 19, is an exciting youngster to come out of the Chelsea academy.

Back in the January transfer window, Morgan joined Gillingham on loan for the rest of the 2024/25 season. His temporary switch to the League Two club gives him his first taste of first-team action.

Gillingham suffered a 3-1 league defeat away to Newport County on Tuesday night, but it was a significant match for their on-loan attacker as he reached a milestone.

Morgan netted his first ever senior professional goal by scoring a header in the midweek loss.

Morgan signed a new Chelsea contract last summer that keeps him at the club until 2027. Even though he’s yet to make his first-team debut for the Blues, he’s now receiving senior minutes in 2025 with Gillingham as he looks to develop and mature.

Morgan’s football journey has certainly been an interesting one so far.

The English centre-forward joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of eight before leaving a few years later to sign for Southampton, where he played between 2017-2023 in their various youth teams. Eventually, Morgan re-signed for the Blues in 2023 as he sealed a return to West London.

The one constant is that he’s been a clinical goalscorer throughout his youth development, so hopefully that can be replicated in the professional game.

In the first half of the current 2024/25 season, Morgan impressed for Chelsea’s U21s side.

Morgan is playing for a struggling Gillingham team who sit 19th in League Two, but these months could be absolutely crucial for the young striker’s education. He’ll surely want more goals now this season because he’s had a taste of it this week.
