Paul Merson is worried about speculation that suggests Mason Mount could end up leaving Chelsea.

Mason Mount, 24, is one of the most high-profile players in the current Chelsea squad.

The attacking midfielder has had a challenging campaign where he’s been trying to discover his best form, but it’s worth remembering he was the club’s player of the year in the previous two seasons.

He’s scored just three goals and made six assists in 35 appearances so far this season.

ESPN claimed last week that Chelsea will hold more talks with Mount to try sort out a new contract. As it stands, his current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2024.

ESPN adds that Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus are all interested in Mount, who could be sold if an agreement isn’t reached over his salary.

The academy graduate has been a standout performer in recent years at Stamford Bridge, but will his long-term future be in West London?

Sky Sports pundit Merson says Chelsea need to make sure they keep Mount at the club.

“One of the players that’s supposed to be going is Mason Mount. He’s one of their best players. That can’t happen, in my opinion,” Merson told Sky Sports.

We’ve got to agree with Merson on this one!

Once the new permanent manager is appointed, he should definitely get the chance to work with Mount.

The 24-year-old’s track record is that managers that work with him seem to love his attitude and ability.
