The actual reason why Chelsea haven’t sacked Mauricio Pochettino yet

Chelsea are not ready to get rid of Mauricio Pochettino just yet it seems.

Chelsea just lost the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool and are 11th in the Premier League table.

However, according to journalist Simon Phillips, the Blues are holding off from sacking Mauricio Pochettino because the club can still qualify for the Europa League. “They are currently 9 points off 6th place with 13 games left to play. And this is why they have been reluctant to sack Pochettino,” Phillips shared on his Substack.

Chelsea can also qualify for next season’s Europa League by winning the FA Cup, which they still have a chance of doing.

Pochettino’s men take on Leeds United in the fifth round of the competition at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Chelsea can still qualify for Europe

The fact that European football next season is not impossible for Chelsea seems to be the thing keeping Pochettino alive here.

However, coming into the campaign, Champions League qualification would have been the main objective for the Blues.

They definitely will not be qualifying for that competition. There is also a good chance that Chelsea will not even enter either of the competitions below it, showing just how bad of a job Pochettino has done this term.

Not everything has gone the Argentine’s way. For example, there have been so many injuries at the club, including to captain Reece James.

However, if his bosses do decide to get rid of him, he cannot have too many complaints. Being in 11th place and at this stage of the season is unacceptable.

Chelsea showed some real promise under Pochettino at the start of the campaign when they drew 1-1 with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. But since then, it has been pretty much downhill with the odd good performance here and there. They have not showed anywhere near enough consistency this term.
