It seems pretty clear now that the future is not looking too bright for one player at Chelsea.

Carney Chukwuemeka has started just one game for Chelsea since Enzo Maresca has taken over as manager, with that coming in the throwaway Conference League group stage clash with Astana.

The midfielder has largely avoided the injury problems that kept him out of major parts of last season, although still doesn’t look as if he is close to featuring for the Blues in any meaningful game.

Maresca has been reportedly concerned about how Chukwuemeka is coming along in training, and this could be why the majority of the campaign has seen him not even able to make the bench.

Chelsea would only allow Chukwuemeka to leave on loan to Strasbourg

The midfielder is very much one of the players who is available to leave this month, with the January transfer window likely to bring more exits than signings.

The majority of talk has been about a permanent deal, and according to The Athletic the only club the Blues would be willing to loan him to is Strasbourg.

Also under the BlueCo ownership, a number of Chelsea loanees have been given the chance to progress their career with the Ligue 1 side since they were taken over.

However, one of Andrey Santos, Caleb Wiley or Djordje Petrovic would need to be recalled in order to allow them to loan the youngster to them this month.

Chukwuemeka angry at Chelsea

If Chelsea are going to get a permanent sale for Chukwuemeka in January, it has been reported that they are asking for a fee of £40m as per the release clause in his contract.

Chukwuemeka and his people are frustrated at this amount, with the fee likely pricing a number of sides out of striking a deal for him.

West Ham are one of the sides interested in Chukwuemeka, and their attempts to sign him could take a step up if they announce former Blues man Graham Potter as their new manager.
