Champions League action has returned in recent days, with Chelsea hoping it is their last season for a  while that being the case.

While the Blues have Conference League action to look forward to restarting next month, a number of players who have recently left the club are now playing key roles in crunch time in Europe’s elite competition.

Renato Veiga played a starting role in Juventus’ first-leg win over PSV, however Joao Felix has now found himself to be dumped out of the competition already.

Theo Hernandez red card costs AC Milan in the Champions League

The Portugal international can put a large portion of the blame for their defeat on Theo Hernandez, a player who has been looked at as a transfer target at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea reportedly have a chance to sign the Frenchman this summer in a deal that involves Felix’s permanent exit from West London.

However, the left-back did his big-move prospects no favours after he was sent off for a second yellow card early in the second half against Feyenoord.

After being booked in the opening 45, Hernandez received a second yellow card for simulation, going down in the penalty area without any contact.

Hie side were winning at the time, and looking good with the likes of Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao running rampant in attack.

Given the magnitude of the defeat and the manner that they were beaten in, people were demanding answers.

Italian football expert predicts Hernandez’s Milan career could be over

Hernandez reportedly wants to be one of the highest earners at the San Siro, however is finding it difficult to earn himself a contract that reflects this.

Italian football expert Carlo Garganese has predicted that the France international’s latest error could see his time at the club come to an end, leaving an open road for the Blues to sign him.

He said: “Tonight may be the end of Theo Hernandez’s Milan career Hard to see a way back for him now. He single-handedly eliminated Milan

“There is no way Milan are going out without his braindead red card. A humiliating elimination for Milan and Italy.”

Chelsea wil be hoping this is the case, with them currently operating with just one natural left-back in the first team squad in Marc Cucurella.

Hernandez would offer a far more attack-minded solution too, something that the Spaniard is not quite as strong at.
