The three Chelsea players who went over with Thiago Silva to speak to angry fans after defeat last night

The travelling Chelsea supporters were certainly not shy to let their players hear it after an embarrassing defeat in the EFL Cup last night.

The Blues are down 1-0 at half-time of this semi-final against Middlesbrough, and simply didn’t turn up for what the manager termed as their biggest game of the season so far.

Cole Palmer had a particularly poor game, uncharacteristically missing a host of guilt-edge chances  as he looked to get to grips with an unfamiliar false nine position.

As the full-time whistle was blown, the travelling contingent of away fans let their frustrations loose on the players.

Sky Sports presenter Mark Chapman noted that Thiago Silva was quick to address the situation by looking to reason with supporters.

He said: “The boos you may be able to hear the Chelsea players have gone over to their own fans and are getting a bit of stick. Thiago Silva has gone over and looks to be trying to calm some people down, but they are a frustrated group of people.”

Colwill, Broja and Gilchrist speak to fans

CFCPys has now taken to Twitter to state that he wasn’t the only one looking to do this.

Academy graduates Levi Colwill, Alfie Gilchrist and Armando Broja were also pictured walking over to supporters, potentially to apologise for the underwhelming performance and result.

The latter was one of only two senior players that were available to Mauricio Pochettino from the bench, although he came out after the game and said he and Mykhailo Mudryk did not have the desired effect.

The Blues will now need to be at their absolute best in the return leg at Stamford Bridge in a couple of weeks’ time, and they will be relying on the crowd to give them an extra gear in what could end up being win or bust for Pochettino.
