Craig Burley has jumped to the defence of Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo after he came under-fire recently for some criticism.

Moises Caicedo, who’s just 21, completed a mammoth £115million transfer (Sky Sports) this summer from Brighton to Chelsea.

As a result of some shaky performances to start his Blues career, the spotlight is now firmly fixed on the midfielder.

The Athletic released an article this week in which Premier League agents named Caicedo as the second worst transfer from the summer window. Incidentally, Kai Havertz’s move from Chelsea to Arsenal was voted the worst.

ESPN pundit Burley was left frustrated by the concept of agents voting on the worst transfers. This included launching a defence for 21-year-old star Caicedo.

“Moises Caicdeo hasn’t started very well, I’ll give you that, but my god, there’s a reason Liverpool and Chelsea were fighting like cats and dogs over him because he’s a really good player,” Burley told ESPN.

Caicedo’s mega price tag means he won’t be afforded too much time to settle at his new club, but it’s nice to hear a bit of common sense from a pundit.

Yes, Caicedo has started a bit slower than he wanted in his first few appearances. However, he’s someone that bossed the Premier League last year and will come good.

We’re confident that the Blues are sitting on a very special midfield once the likes of Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez properly gel together in the upcoming months.
