Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher was the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur late in the summer transfer window.
However, journalist Ben Jacobs claims that Tottenham’s interest never materialised into a deadline day bid and has shared why.
According to his column on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, “they felt” that the Blues’ asking price for Conor Gallagher was too high.
One report from talkSPORT during the summer claimed that Chelsea valued their midfielder at £50m.
Mauricio Pochettino will be glad that Gallagher has remained at Stamford Bridge, with the Englishman having become a key player under him this season. He has played in all nine of his side’s Premier League fixtures so far.
Conor Gallagher too much for Tottenham
Based on what Jacobs has written on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, then, it seems Chelsea’s valuation was too high for their London rivals.
Right now, though, Gallagher does look like a midfielder who is worth a lot of money. He has been excellent for Pochettino’s side this season.
According to WhoScored, the England international is currently making 1.8 interceptions per game in the Premier League, more than any other Chelsea player. He is also making three tackles per game, which is the second-highest average in his squad.
Gallagher has a couple of assists to his name as well, so he is clearly a footballer who is bringing much to the table at Stamford Bridge at this moment in time.
After Chelsea signed Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, it certainly did look like Gallagher would leave the club for Tottenham or another Premier League outfit.
However, Gallagher has remained in west London and is proving people wrong, something that the 23-year-old admits he loves doing.
If the Three Lions player can maintain the form that he has been showing and improve as a footballer, then his valuation is only going to go up.
