Paul Merson has claimed that he was impressed by the instant impact made by Cole Palmer for Chelsea today against Nottingham Forest.
He praised him during his coverage of the game for Sky Sports, stating that the skill he produced straight after his introduction was exactly what they were looking for after signing him.
The good vibes that were at Stamford Bridge just over a week ago were wiped out after the Blues were beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest this afternoon.
Anthony Elanga’s goal three minutes after half-time separated the sides, as the visitors capitalised on an error from Moises Caicedo.
It was an unfortunate moment for the club’s record signing, with it following a really impressive first half display.
Merson praises Palmer
In an attempt to turn the game around, Mauricio Pochettino brought on his newest addition, Palmer.
While he didn’t help save the club from what was a terrible defeat, he certainly looked bright in the half hour cameo he had.
Merson was full of praise for his instant impact off the bench, explaining that what he saw was exactly what Chelsea were looking for after signing him.
He said: “This is why they bought him, Palmer. Great bit of skill, beats two players. Cross didn’t come to anything though.”
It remains to be seen whether the manager looks to hand Palmer a start when the Blues return after the scheduled international break that intercepts the start of the campaign.
