‘Thought it was a joke’… TalkSPORT pundit stunned by comments from Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino

Gabby Agbonlahor has been left quite stunned by what he’s just heard from Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

It was more disappointment at the weekend for Mauricio Pochettino, whose team were beaten 2-0 away at Everton in the Premier League.

Speaking after yet another Blues defeat this season, Chelsea’s manager hinted at potential movement in the January transfer window and a need to improve with new signings.

“We need to be more aggressive. Then it’s a massive assessment and when the transfer window opens, we will see what we can do. I don’t say if I am going to ask for more or less players. It’s to see if the perception matches the reality. We are missing something. We need to improve our reality,” Pochettino said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Now, talkSPORT pundit Agbonlahor has reacted to the recent comments from the weekend.

Chelsea manager not joking

Agbonlahor couldn’t quite believe the suggestion from Pochettino that Chelsea may need to dip into their pockets again for more signings.

It’s been well covered just how much the London club have spent on assembling this squad in the last few windows. Yet somehow the team are in the bottom half of the Premier League table and looking very fragile.

Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: “When I saw that quote, I thought it was a joke. Like when you have a bit of banter with a reporter, ‘we have to get some more players’. What are you talking about? The amount of players they went and bought. They’ve got [Christopher] Nkunku to come back from injury. [Romeo] Lavia has got to come back. You can’t just keep going it’s not going well I need a transfer window. Get more out of these players.”

Mauricio Pochettino wants more

It’s difficult to defend even more Chelsea spending when you evaluate the last couple of years, but you can’t ignore this squad is still lacking in certain departments. Unfortunately, it’s just another reminder that they’ve got a lot of spending incorrect.

If the Blues could make just one new signing next month, we’d definitely suggest a proven and top-class No 9 striker.

Football Transfers recently claimed that Chelsea are desperate to sign Napoli’s 24-year-old striker Victor Osimhen. In addition, Pochettino is insistent on adding another centre-forward to the ranks.

Let’s hope that Pochettino gets his wishes and that he can start to get more of a tune out of his players.
