Three Chelsea players who need more opportunities under Enzo Maresca this season

Enzo Maresca has so far been very consistent with his team selection for Chelsea during Premier League games.

Despite having plenty of competition for roles, he has stayed loyal to some of his top performers so far this season, reaping the rewards in the process.

Exactly this happened in the case of Noni Madueke at the weekend, with him scoring and rescuing a point after some had called for him to be benched.

There are certainly some quality players waiting in the wings though, and The Chelsea Chronicle have ranked three that need to be given more of a chance soon.

Chelsea players who need more chances under Enzo Maresca

Christopher Nkunku

Nkunku can’t stop finding the net whenever he gets an opportunity at the moment, however that chance is very rarely coming in the Premier League.

He has only started once in the league this season, with that coming on the left-wing against Manchester City on the opening day.

He has proven himself to be a central striker since then, a role held down by Nicolas Jackson all season long.

However, two games without a goal could mean it’s time to see what Nkunku can do in this side.

Pedro Neto

Signed for big money over the summer, there is no doubt an expectation that Neto will become a regular on the wings for Chelsea this season.

However, his starts have mostly been limited to cup football up to now too, where he has scored in his last two appearances.

As mentioned above Madueke is just about holding on to his place on the right wing at the moment, although the Portuguese star can feature on both sides effectively.

Injuries have so far not been an issue for Neto, and he deserves a chance to start more often under Maresca.

Carney Chukwuemeka

While this would not be for a place in the starting side, the fact Chukwuemeka doesn’t have a start to his name since the new manager came in is crazy.

The boss has seemed to prefer starting Cesare Casadei in cup competitions this season, leaving the future of the English youngster up in the air.

Maresca has admitted the plan was to part ways this summer, although now he has stayed there is no harm in utilising his talents.

Chukwuemeka should be given the chance to impress way more often as Carabao Cup and Conference League games begin to stack up.
