There’s a general feeling within the Chelsea fanbase that things have stepped up a gear this season.
The Blues have enjoyed a smooth transition since Enzo Maresca took charge as the Chelsea manager in the summer.
As it stands, Chelsea sit third in the Premier League table after 11 games, collecting 19 points during what’s been a tricky set of fixtures. In contrast, at the same stage last season they were 10th in the division table with 15 points from 11 matches.
A number of players in the Chelsea squad have raised their levels to perform superbly well in the last few months.

Tim Sherwood acknowledges Levi Colwill progress at Chelsea
During a segment on the Premier League’s official website, pundits selected their most improved player so far this season in England’s top flight.
Tim Sherwood picked Chelsea’s Levi Colwill, 21, as the Premier League’s most improved this campaign.
| Pundit | Most improved pick |
| Michael Owen | Chris Wood |
| Leon Osman | Ryan Gravenberch |
| Shaun Wright-Phillips | Nicolas Jackson |
| Shay Given | Nicolas Jackson |
| Matt Holland | Ryan Gravenberch |
| Tim Sherwood | Levi Colwill |
| Karen Carney | Chris Wood or Levi Colwill |
| Don Hutchison | Ryan Gravenberch |
Colwill recently claimed he’s playing his best football under Maresca, so he clearly agrees that things are gelling for him this season.
The central defender sometimes covered out of position last year at left-back, something that’s a useful tool to have in your locker. However, he’s started every league match this campaign in his preferred centre-back role.
Maresca views Colwill as undroppable from Chelsea’s best XI right now because of his impressive form in the opening months of this season.
Levi Colwill in key Chelsea core
So far this season, there’s been five Chelsea stars that have started every Premier League game. It’s meant there’s been a great consistency running through the spine of the team.
- Levi Colwill
- Robert Sanchez
- Moises Caicedo
- Cole Palmer
- Nicolas Jackson
Hopefully, Colwill can kick on with this momentum and continue shining as one of his side’s main players.
Maresca has acknowledged “fantastic” defender Colwill as a Chelsea leader, which is definitely an area of his game that’s becoming more noticeable as he grows in stature. The Blues academy graduate certainly wears his heart on his sleeve when he steps on to the football pitch.
