Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is reportedly closing in on a return from injury – and some Blues fans on Twitter are very excited by the news they’re hearing.

According to The Times, Kovacic could be in line to make his return from a hamstring problem at the weekend.

The 27-year-old Blues star hasn’t played since October because of his injury, leaving Thomas Tuchel’s options in the midfield very limited.

It is reported that the Croatia international is “unlikely” to travel with the Chelsea squad to face Zenit on Wednesday night in the Champions League group stages. However, he could be back in the match day squad this Saturday at home to Leeds United in the Premier League.

Chelsea fans celebrate reported news

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media insist that Kovacic’s potential imminent return is a massive boost.

Blues fans should listen out for an update from manager Tuchel on Tuesday afternoon in his press conference, though.

Kovacic’s absence lately has been visibly noticeable.

The £40million central midfielder was in sensational form in the opening couple of months of the season, recapturing the kind of levels from the 2019/20 campaign that made him the club’s player of the year.

He helps set the tempo in the midfield with his dribbling, composure and passing. Also, he’s got five Premier League assists under his belt already this season.

Chelsea have had to cope without N’Golo Kante lately as well, so getting a senior figure like Kovacic back in contention could be massive for the hectic winter schedule.
