Todd Boehly has one major concern about the current Chelsea squad as owner plans summer overhaul

Todd Boehly has already invested plenty of money into the Chelsea squad, and that is set to continue in the upcoming transfer window.

The Blues want multiple signings to come in this summer, while getting rid of some of the deadwood in the process.

Christopher Nkunku looks set to be on the move after the Frenchman was left out of the squad for Chelsea’s recent win over Fulham.

A new centre-back is going to be an essential, mainly because of the unfortunate injury record suffered by Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile in particular.

Fofana is out for the season, and is becoming less and less reliable for Chelsea as a genuine option going forwards.

Todd Boehly concerned by Chelsea’s injury record

Fitness has been a concern across the board still with their key players. Reece James and Romeo Lavia are having to be held back when they are ready to play in order to prevent future issues.

Simon Phillips has reported that this has actually been noted as a concern to Boehly directly, with that being something he has noted ahead of making signing this summer.

He said on his Substack: “There is a real emphasis on getting players who are versatile and can play different positions to help combat injury absences, something that Todd Boehly in particular has persistently been concerned about and has been mentioning.”

It has already been reported that any signing needs approval from three figures at Chelsea, with Boehly being one of them. Enzo Maresca was not named as one.

Potential Chelsea signings this summer

Chelsea are reportedly favourites to sign Dean Huijsen this summer after making their move to bring him in before this summer’s Club World Cup.

This is also the plan for Liam Delap, with as many as 11 clubs interested in signing the striker after his relegation release clause became clear.

It cannot be forgotten that the Blues have already completed a large amount of business that will impact them next season.

Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez will join the club at the end of this campaign, with both having a great chance to earn minutes in Maresca’s side next season.
