The future does not look too bright right now for Raheem Sterling as a Chelsea player.

The winger was left out completely of Enzo Maresca’s matchday squad for the opening game of the season against Manchester City.

Sterling’s camp responded by releasing a statement asking for clarity on his situation, with it emerging just minutes before the Blues’ campaign got underway.

Gary Lineker believes Sterling was looking for club’s to register interest in signing him, with it looking as if it is going to be difficult for him to break into the side on a regular basis this season.

There have been a number of clubs in world football linked with a move for the England international, however it has frequently been mentioned that his wages are standing in the way of that.

However, Ben Jacobs has claimed that he would be willing to drop his wages for the right project, and that Aston Vila have been keeping an eye on the situation playing out at Stamford Bridge.

He told ‘London is Blue: “So, the reality for Sterling now might appear to be frozen out, but if the window shuts and he’s still at Chelsea, it might be a slightly different situation.

“Juventus, the team that have been linked repeatedly, I’m told yet the Sterling camp haven’t had a direct approach, but it is true that they’re interested in Raheem Sterling.

“It’s also true to my knowledge that if Sterling gets the right project presented to him, he would take a wage cut. So it’s not a given that the wages are going to stop Sterling from leaving.

“Then the last thing, interestingly, that I’ve heard, which surprised me, is that Aston Vila are monitoring the situation too.”

Villa were reportedly keen on a deal for Joao Felix earlier this summer, however his future now lies at Chelsea.

Not everyone is convinced it is exactly the move the Blues need to make at this stage. Jamie Carragher has questioned whether they already have too many players before needing to sign any more for their first team.
