Jamie Carragher has raised one major problem with Joao Felix’s expected move to Chelsea this summer.

It’s widely reported across the media that Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix, 24, is on the verge of signing for Chelsea on a permanent basis.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea and Atletico have now agreed the transfer for Felix, who’s in line for a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Felix previously had a brief loan spell with the Blues in the second half of the 2022/23 season, scoring four goals in 20 games. Let’s hope the attacker’s in for a successful career now he’s rejoining permanently.

Journalist Graeme Bailey told The Chelsea Chronicle last week that agent Jorge Mendes was working tirelessly to sort Felix’s transfer.

Jamie Carragher issue with Joao Felix move

Jamie Carragher certainly doesn’t sound too enthused by Felix’s imminent switch to West London. His main problem with the deal is that he’s struggling to see where Chelsea fit him into their starting XI, which is going to be a puzzle for head coach Enzo Maresca.

Carragher said on Sky Sports Main Event (7:27pm, 19 August): “You have bought Joao Felix, right? Tell me where he is going to play.

“They signed [Pedro] Neto a week ago. Where is he going to play when you have already got Cole Palmer? Where would you play Enzo Fernandez (if Felix, Neto and Palmer played together)? Where would you play [Christopher] Nkunku?”

Chelsea options in attack

There’s no doubt that Chelsea are currently stacked with options in the forward area, but it’s worth stressing to the critics that there’s still 10 days left of the transfer window. Let’s wait and see what the squad looks like after that because several individuals are linked with potential exits.

In terms of Felix, he’s shown in his career so far that he can play pretty much anywhere in the forward line. The next step for him may be nailing down one position so he can fulfil this vast potential.

Cole Palmer should be the first name on the team sheet and an ever-present in Chelsea’s attack. Therefore, it’ll be interesting to see which teammates start around him moving forward.
