Chelsea and Tottenham both qualified for this season’s Champions League despite very different campaigns last year.
For Chelsea, they secured fourth position in the Premier League on the final day of the 2024/25 season. Afterwards, the Blues won both the Conference League and Club World Cup to cap off an impressive first year for Enzo Maresca in the manager’s dugout.
Even though the expectation is growing from supporters, Maresca’s main target is another top-four finish with Chelsea this term.
As for Spurs, they finished 17th in the Premier League, picking up just 38 points across the 38-game league season. However, they rescued themselves by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final in May, sealing Champions League qualification in the process.

Dominic Solanke predicts Premier League top four, ignores Chelsea
Spurs centre-forward Dominic Solanke, 27, previously came through Chelsea’s academy. However, he’s not mentioned the Blues in his selections for the Premier League’s top four spots.
When asked to pick the Premier League’s top four for next season in no particular order, Solanke said via _da4p’s TikTok: “I’m going Tottenham. Liverpool – they’ve [made] some good signings. [Manchester] City – I think City will bounce back this year. Arsenal.”
Spurs, who are under new management with Thomas Frank, will have to perform something quite special to compete around the top end of the Premier League in the new season.
In contrast, Chelsea should feel optimistic that they can build on last season with their very talented young squad.
Alan Shearer expects Chelsea to challenge for the Premier League, especially after seeing their excellent performances in the summer’s Club World Cup tournament. The supporters must feel that a top-four finish should be an absolute minimum for the current team.

Chelsea were put off re-signing Dominic Solanke
Back in the 2024 summer transfer window, Chelsea were linked with a move to re-sign Solanke from Bournemouth. Instead, the English striker secured a £65m move to Spurs, where he enjoyed a steady debut year with them.

Chelsea were put off by Solanke’s £65m valuation a year ago, so Nicolas Jackson led the line again for them last season.
If we skip to the current day, the Blues have signed Joao Pedro and Liam Delap to help rejuvenate the attack. We will certainly be interested to see whether they both can score more goals than Solanke in the upcoming season.
