Tyrique George praises ‘really sharp’ Jamie Gittens

He is one of three Chelsea players in the squad, with Jamie Gittens and Josh Acheampong also in the side who won both games during the break.

Gittens and George combined for the Young Lions’ only goal against Andorra, and the Cobham graduate was full of praise for his club and international teammate after the game.

He said: “We’re really close friends. You always need competition in a top club, and you’re always going to get that. So I feel like he’s pushed me, and I push him, that’s the main objective, so it’s good.”

“No he’s really sharp. He’s really sharp, he’s really good, electric, smart player as well so yeah. He’s a really good player.”

Chelsea are convinced Gittens will come good, however he has not enjoyed the best start to life since the switch from Borussia Dortmund.

Gittens’ tough start at Chelsea

While Joao Pedro and Estevao Willian have hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge, things have not been as easy for Gittens since his move to West London.

The winger has started just two Premier League games so far this season, and is yet to find the net for his new club.

The Gittens signing was described as ‘strange’ by Alan Smith, especially as he is one of the players looking to replace the impact Noni Madueke had in blue.

There is still plenty of time for him to turn things around though, and a positive international break alongside George will see him return to Maresca’s squad with plenty of confidence.
