Journalist Simon Phillips has now claimed that one player Chelsea are reportedly looking to sign next summer actually wants to play in a new position.

He told his Substack that Alphonso Davies, who the club are considering to bring in as a new left-back, actually wants to start playing his football on the wing.

Davies is a dream target for the Blues, with him reportedly considering his future at Bayern Munich.

A number of elite sides are interested in bringing in the Canadian, and Chelsea will be hoping that his past admiration for the club will see them move towards the top of the list.

He has been praised plenty during his career so far, with him being described as ‘unbelievable’ by teammate Joshua Kimmich.

Phillips has claimed though that they may have to contend with the player potentially trying to play in a different position.

Davies wants to play new position

He said: “The club are also looking at left backs, and they have solid interest in Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich, and Valentin Barco of Boca Juniors.

“With Davies, I am told that he is quite keen to play as a winger as well. Although he is happy to still play as a left back, he’s keen to move up the pitch a bit, and this could come in to play for Chelsea as they are also pondering potential wingers as well as left backs.

“Davies will be a very tough get but not impossible. He’s openly admitted his love of Chelsea and that could be a factor. Other big clubs are very keen though.”

A new outright winger has not been ruled out so far in an upcoming transfer market either.

There have been links to Napoli sensation Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, although they are probably more hopeful they can sign his teammate, Victor Osimhen, to play up front.
