One of Chelsea’s previous top transfer targets for this summer transfer window has now been left out of his side’s first pre-season fixture of the summer.
The Blues looked to do a lot of their business early on in the transfer window, particularly before the Club World Cup got underway.
They added Liam Delap to their ranks prior to the tournament, and saw Joao Pedro make an instant impact as he joined up with his new teammates at the quarter-final stage.
While they didn’t get every name over the line that they wished, Enzo Maresca still led his side to a dominant 3-0 win in the final against PSG.

Mike Maignan left out of AC Milan squad after pushing for Chelsea move
One of the players who was linked with a move was Mike Maignan, with goalkeeper one of the positions Chelsea supporters were desperate to see strengthened.
The Blues were still keen on Maignan after missing out on him before the first transfer deadline of the summer, however at this stage it does seem as if their interest has cooled.
The Frenchman’s status at AC Milan is still unclear, after he had made it clear that he wanted to leave the club with just one year left on his contract.
His situation is no clearer now either, after their first pre-season friendly of the summer saw Maignan not even named in the squad to face Arsenal.
35-year-old Pietro Terracciano started the game, and even though he was replaced at half-time, their traditional number one was nowhere to be seen.
Chelsea will face AC Milan later this summer as they look to quickly get back up to speed with things ahead of the return to Premier League action.

Enzo Maresca gives backing to Robert Sanchez
One of the surprise packages of Chelsea’s Club World Cup victory was the performances of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who was awarded the Golden Glove award.
Sanchez starred in the final, where his distribution seemed to have improved greatly. He frequently got Chelsea on their way in attack with his passing.
It has been reported that Chelsea are now backing Sanchez to be their number one next season, despite a difficult couple of seasons at Stamford Bridge.
Youngster Mike Penders is set for a season at Strasbourg, where he will be hoping to prove that he can be the Spaniard’s successor in the coming years.
