Chelsea have been linked with the signing of a new goalkeeper throughout the summer transfer window, however one name has emerged in the last 24 hours as a fresh name.

Emiliano Martinez, who is expected to leave Aston Villa this summer, is reportedly being considered by Chelsea as they look to address the position which drew the most criticism at Stamford Bridge over the 2024/25 season.

It has been claimed Maresca is leading the interest in Martinez, who has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United.

It appears the Italian is not convinced by the current options available to him. Robert Sanchez is free to leave despite being the number one throughout the 24/25 campaign.

With Djordje Petrovic banished to the reserves, it is expected that a new shot stopper will make their way to Stamford Bridge.

However, The Chelsea Chronicle understands that Martinez is currently not the number one target in West London, despite reports.

Graeme Bailey exclusively revealed that Chelsea are still prioritising a deal to sign Mike Maignan this summer, and are prepared to wait it out throughout the summer to get him over the line.

However, he also stated that the Blues are doing work on a number of targets, with the intention being that they strengthen the position this summer.

Chelsea fans called for their club to sign Maignan after the 3-1 Club World Cup defeat to Flamengo, with Sanchez letting his side down with his distribution.

Chelsea not giving up on Maignan

Chelsea walked away from signing Maignan before the first deadline before the Club World Cup, with them believing AC Milan were holding out for too much money.

However, reports since have claimed Chelsea have not given up on Maignan, despite briefs that they are content with their current options.

They may be advised to not wait too long though. It has been reported that discussions have begun over a potential new Milan contract for Maignan.

It is fair to say that the Blues need to invest in the position in order to take the next step in their project, and Maignan is one of the best options possible.
