Chelsea’s draw with Burnley at the weekend was filled with several talking points, the main one for Blues supporters that their side dropped yet more league points this season.

The Blues could only record a 2-2 draw in the Premier League at home to 19th-placed Burnley, which is extra frustrating because the visitors played the entire second-half with a man less at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea talisman Cole Palmer, 21, added two more goals to his season tally. However, Mauricio Pochettiono’s side couldn’t make their numerical advantage count.

Next, Chelsea host Manchester United on Thursday night. Speaking via Sportskeeda on Monday, Paul Merson has predicted the score for Chelsea against Man United.

VAR controversy in Chelsea vs Burnley

Burnley were left furious by one particular moment in the league trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Burnley’s Loren Assignon was shown a second yellow card and sent off just before half-time for his alleged foul on Mykhailo Mudryk in the penalty box. Incidentally, Palmer scored the resulting spot-kick to put the hosts in front.

Clarets full-back Assignon cut across Mudryk with the pair running into the box at pace, which saw the Chelsea man drop to the ground and win a penalty.

From our honest point of view, we’d have been fuming had this decision gone against Chelsea. We won’t have too much sympathy as all clubs have been undone by officiating over the course of the season.

Chris Sutton stunned

BBC pundit Chris Sutton couldn’t believe the refereeing incident involving Mudryk and Assignon at the weekend.

He insists the 23-year-old Chelsea winger dived after minimal contact from Assignon in the penalty area.

“Mudryk dived. That was amazing because how the VAR official [missed it]… Had they gone out for tea? Were they on the wine? How could they actually miss that?” Sutton told The Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“[Lorenz] Assignon got sent off for a second yellow. [Vincent] Kompany then gets sent off. But Mudryk dived for that. That was utterly ridiculous!”
