Journalist Matt Law has told The London is Blue podcast that some people at Chelsea already think the signing of Andrey Santos is a better addition than Enzo Fernandez.

The Blues brought in the pair as two of their many January acquisitions, with the Argentinian joining as a club-record signing.

Chelsea were locked in fierce negotiations with a Benfica side who were extremely against selling their star player, although a breakthrough was made in the final moments of a busy January.

The World Cup winner has already made his first appearance for the club. He was thrown straight into the starting line-up for the West London derby against Fulham.

He certainly impressed despite the uninspiring performance for the team, making it likely that he will be the anchor for the games to come.

However, Law has claimed some at the club are more excited by the prospects of another midfielder.

Chelsea think Santos may be a better signing than Fernandez

Santos is yet to feature for the Blues, but there is reportedly a hope amongst those at the club that he has the biggest prospects of all.

He said: “Chelsea are very, very excited about Andrey Santos. There’s people in the club that think he’s been their best January Transfer.”

The Brazilian is currently having a stellar time representing his country at U20 level in the South American championships.

He scored in the first five games despite playing in midfield, captaining Brazil on their way towards the final.

There have been reports already that the club are hoping his impressive performances will put him in a good position to secure a work visa to get going with the Blues already, after his £18m signing last month.

While appearances this season may be tough to come by, there is a void for a long-term partner to Fernandez that they’re hoping he can fill in the coming years.
