‘Very grateful’: 22-year-old is so happy Chelsea signed him, willing to play several positions for Pochettino

Enzo Fernandez has been speaking about life at Chelsea – and how he feels playing in a more advanced role under Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentina international spoke to Argentinian media outlets while on international duty.

Well, the 22-year-old admits that he was delighted when Chelsea signed him from Benfica in a £106.8m deal back in January.

Fernandez also revealed that he is happy to play in either a No.5 role under Pochettino, or as a more advanced No.8 having been used in both positions since childhood.

The South American is quoted by La Nacion as saying: “We know what the World Cup generates. It opens the doors to many places, as happened to me, who was at Benfica and my move to Chelsea was very great. I always said that playing in the Premier League was my dream. I am very grateful to Chelsea for the opportunity.

When asked about switching between the No.5 and No.8 role, Fernandez added: “They are different positions, at Chelsea I am playing a little further forward. Nothing changes, because since I was a child I have always played as a five and as a eight, I have no problem. With five, you have to stay more with the defenders, and later on you have to let go more and be with the forwards.”

A rumour from a very poor source emerged on Wednesday claiming that Fernandez was already considering his future at Chelsea.

However, on the basis of these comments, the Chelsea No.8 seems more than happy to be at Stamford Bridge.

After hearing that rumour on Wednesday, some Chelsea fans may have been concerned – Fernandez is a truly world class player who surely won’t settle for another season outside of the Champions League.

As a result, Chelsea fans may feel at risk of losing the £106.8m man if results do not improve this term.

However, Fernandez has surely eased those concerns with his latest interview, where he said all the right things.

Hopefully, the Chelsea No.8 returns from international duty unscathed, and can help the Blues embark on a run of good form when Premier League football gets back underway.
