Former Chelsea defender Wayne Bridge has given his thoughts on Enzo Maresca’s start to life at Stamford Bridge.
It surprised many people in the summer when Enzo Maresca, 44, was appointed the new Chelsea manager.
So far, the Italian head coach has had a mixed bag of results to leave his side sixth in the Premier League table after eight gameweeks. Maresca’s style of play is definitely coming through already with plenty of possession but also fast-paced attacking football.
It would be great if the Blues owners have finally found the individual they want for the long-term in the manager’s dugout.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano previously reported via The Debrief that Chelsea’s players are “very happy” with Maresca right now.

Wayne Bridge seriously impressed by Enzo Maresca
According to Wayne Bridge, it’s been a really positive start for Maresca during his time in charge at Chelsea.
During a discussion on David Seaman’s YouTube channel, Bridge commented: “What he’s (Maresca) done coming in there, I think, is great. I just called it a shambles. The amount of players they’ve got, the length of contracts they’ve got. For a manager to actually accept that job, it doesn’t look pretty does it.
“He’s come in, and looking in, he’s got them playing how he wants them to play. Every player seems to know their job. He must have attention to detail in training. I think everyone knows their job, and they’re playing so much better. I think he’s done really well considering what he came into.”
Let’s see where Chelsea are at next international break
We’re equally encouraged by what we’ve seen from Maresca already at Chelsea, especially because the team has an identity within such a short space of time.
However, there’s three crucial league matches to play before next month’s international break.

We’ll know a lot more about where this current Blues team is after the next three top-flight games.
While Chelsea’s performance was very encouraging away at Liverpool on Sunday, they eventually suffered a 2-1 defeat. It means they’ve been beaten by Manchester City and Liverpool already this campaign, so there’s obviously still a bit of a gap to the top clubs in the division.
We’re still optimistic that Chelsea can obtain a top-four finish during Maresca’s first year in charge, but they need a healthy points return in the next few weeks.
