It has been said time after time that BlueCo deserves to take a big chunk of the blame for Chelsea’s failures during 2025-26. However, Wayne Rooney thinks Chelsea’s hierarchy will come good eventually.
Anyone connected to Chelsea will know full well why there is criticism for Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, and BlueCo. The so-called five-year plan hasn’t worked, with Chelsea’s desire to buy young failing.
BlueCo have lost over £1bn since Chelsea takeover
Is this sustainable? What's Clearlake's masterplan to claw back these losses?
It has resulted in a side full of young potential, but lacking the leadership and experience required to maximise the players with potential. The appointment of Liam Rosenior has added fuel to that fire.
Another young manager, trying to lead a young team, was never going to end well, and it didn’t. But as always, the buck stops with the manager. Rosenior lost his job for a collective failing at Chelsea.
Wayne Rooney defends BlueCo and backs success at Chelsea
Joe Cole has often been the spokesperson for Chelsea supporters and recently went on a rant, on his own podcast. Cole explained how BlueCo are the reason for their own five-year plan failing at Chelsea.

Failing to replace the losses of experienced players, selling homegrown talent, and constantly changing managers – it is all on BlueCo’s shoulders. Yet, on his BBC podcast, Rooney backed BlueCo to be a success.
“They are successful businessmen. Being that successful, sometimes you do need to listen to others. The people who know football. I think they actually will get it right, but they need to employ the right people.”
DISCUSS: BlueCo must leave for Chelsea to be successful again…
Or is there a future with BlueCo at Chelsea?
BlueCo needs to start making the right decisions
Most fans dream of BlueCo and Boehly selling the club but realistically, that is not going to happen. If they are to remain, then BlueCo need to start making the right decisions. That starts with a new manager.
If Rooney’s comments are to become reality, finding the right manager to lead this side into the new season is crucial. They must learn from the mistakes they made in hiring Rosenior, and pick the right man.
Then, they need to sign the right players and that means, spending big on some leaders. Some players that can instantly arrive at Chelsea and wear the armband, ones that can dictate the Chelsea defence.
But for the majority of fans, Boehly and BlueCo’s ownership has got to such a bad position that there is no coming back from it. This summer is key for Chelsea if they are to remain one of the league’s best.
