Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that the club are still working on signing a new midfielder in the next few weeks.

He told Football London that he feels like he certainly needs one more player who can play that position ahead of next season.

Pochettino is now fully getting used to life as the Chelsea manager, taking charge of a couple of pre-season games over in America.

They have so far resulted in consecutive victories, with the win against Brighton particularly impressive.

He has taken the opportunity to utilise some of his new signings. Both Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson have featured up front at various points of the two games.

Both have also been on the scoresheet, with Chelsea scoring nine goals across their two games.

Pochettino wants another midfielder

However, the manager has acknowledged that the team is not where he wants it to be right now.

He has claimed that he still believes he needs the club to bring in one more midfielder before they get ready to take on Liverpool in the first game of the season in less than three weeks time.

He said: “At least we need one more. We are working on that. Depends what happens in the next few weeks. The club is working on that. We need one more.”

It has been widely claimed that the Blues are most hopeful for Moises Caicedo to be the player signed in the position.

Pre-season has seen the Blues utilise a number of youngsters in midfield, with Andrey Santos and Cesare Casadei impressing particularly.

However, a first team option with Premier League experience is likely to be needed, and may cost them close to a record fee for a transfer.
