What Ajax sources are saying about Jorrel Hato’s pending move to Chelsea, they’ve accepted their fate

Chelsea are closing in on signing a new defender this summer, as the Blues are set to make a big-money offer to his club.

Jorrel Hato is being targeted by the Blues to be brought in to provide cover and competition for Marc Cucurella going into the 2025/26 campaign.

The teenager is very keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, with Hato rejecting moves to other Premier League clubs to back up his desire to join Chelsea.

The two clubs are currently in the process of agreeing a fee, with it clear that Ajax are going to want a significant fee to part ways with one of their most promising talents.

Ajax would be delighted with £43m for Jorrel Hato from Chelsea

It was said that the Dutch side had rejected Chelsea’s first bid for the defender, however now seem to be accepting their fate that he is going to be on the move this summer.

The defender was nowhere to be seen during Ajax’s pre-season friendly against Como, with them clearly believing their preparation for next season was best off happening without the in-demand full-back around.

According to De Telegraaf, the decision not to play actually came from Hato himself, with him actually set to play at least 45 minutes in the game.

The report goes on to say that internally at Ajax, they are convinced that a £43m transfer fee would be ‘fantastic business’, opening up the opportunity for the Blues to strike a deal.

Chelsea considering softening Hato financial blow

Despite Chelsea no doubt being willing to pay the fee to sign the defender, they will be looking to make it as financially viable as possible.

The prospect of Chelsea sending youngsters to Ajax has been discussed, with the Dutch side well known for bringing through young talent to reach their potential.

One player who has been mentioned as an Ajax target is Ishe Samuels-Smith, who looked set for a permanent move to Strasbourg before this move had been discussed.

Despite the Blues looking to make the best of their ties with the Ligue 1 squad, it would make sense to sacrifice one of their opportunities with them to get the Hato deal over the line.
