Pundit Gary Neville last night noticed Mauricio Pochettino was completely bemused by something Conor Gallagher did in the second half of last night’s win over Tottenham.
He told Sky Sports that the manager was left with his arms outstretched after the England international’s long ball flew out of play on the far side.
Gallagher was part of a midfield that really struggled in the opening minutes against a fired up Spurs side that were looking to maintain their unbeaten record in the Premier League.
It did not take long for things to begin to settle down for the visitors though, and the hosts hit the self-destruct button as things went on.
Cristian Romero was sent off in the first half before Destiny Udogie joined him not long after. Both could easily have been sent off earlier.
Chelsea eventually turned things around, coming out 4-1 winners after plenty of huffing and puffing against nine men.
Pochettino bemused with Gallagher
Nicolas Jackson left North London with a hat-trick, with his second being set up by Gallagher.
Instead of celebrating that goal, Pochettino instead laid into his defence for nearly letting their opponents back into the game.
Despite the assist, a little while earlier Neville had noticed the manager had been angry with what he had seen from the 23-year-old.
He said: “I don’t know what Mauricio Pochettino’s just said to Conor Gallagher. He’s got his arms stretched out wide saying ‘What are you doing?’
“They’re losing their heads a little bit because they’re losing confidence in the fact that they’re being frustrated by the nine men.”
While Chelsea eventually found a way through their resilient opponents, it remains to be seen how much confidence his side take into their upcoming tough run of fixtures, starting with Manchester City on Sunday.
