What Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo did to the Newcastle fans mocking him on Sunday

It does not look like Newcastle United fans have forgiven Tosin Adarabioyo for choosing Chelsea over their club.

Chelsea signed Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham in the summer, but Newcastle were also interested in the central defender.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle actually came close to signing Adarabioyo, but in the end he opted to join their Premier League rivals instead.

Chelsea played Newcastle over the weekend, and the away support did not give Adarabioyo the warmest reception.

Tosin Adarabioyo vs Newcastle fans

Adarabioyo did not get on the pitch on Sunday, so Newcastle fans did not get too many opportunities to boo him.

However, he was sent to warm up as a substitute, giving Newcastle supporters the chance to chant not the kindest of words towards him.

According to NewcastleWorld, in response to the away fans, Adarabioyo simply gave a cheeky smirk.

Newcastle supporters and Adarabioyo could cross paths again when the Magpies welcome Chelsea to St James’ Park in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Enzo Maresca was seen working closely with Adarabioyo on Monday, so he could come into the team for the game.

Tosin Adarabioyo has point to prove

Adarabioyo was given a great opportunity to show Maresca that he should be in his first XI after starting in Chelsea’s 2-1 loss against Liverpool.

However, the 27-year-old failed his audition, picking up an early yellow card before being taken off in the second half.

He has the chance to remind Maresca of what he is capable of, though, when Chelsea travel to Newcastle.

It is not as if Adarabioyo is a bad defender. He has already shown his manager this season that he has something to offer.

For example, in Chelsea’s 3-0 win against West Ham United last month, the former Fulham man made five clearances, the third most in the game (via Sofascore).

Now it is just about consistency and defending well against strong opposition, which he struggled to do during the Liverpool defeat.
